As the ‘Climate Change Day of Action’ in Coventry (19th March) approaches, plans are taking shape and the day promises to be full of inspiration, campaigning and peaceful protest.
This event is intended to apply pressure to the government in the run up to the UN talks in Copenhagen this December. These are the most critical climate change negotiations since the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997; and we must ensure that our government places the worlds’ poor at the heart of the agreement.
Activities will begin with a special service at Coventry Cathedral from 12-1pm. You are invited to come and be challenged and inspired by our guest speakers James Hansen, renowned NASA climatologist, and James Jones, the Right Revd Bishop of Liverpool. You will also hear the Visual Ministry Choir and UK award winning gospel artist, Sandra Godley. Together we will reflect on the devastating impact of climate change and explore our response to this crisis.
Next join us in the grounds of the old Cathedral at 1pm for refreshments and a chance to hear from Ashok Sinha (Stop Climate Chaos Coalition Director) and Daleep Mukarji (Director of Christian Aid). Both speakers will deliver a rallying call to end climate chaos before leading us on a march through the town centre.
The Stop Climate Chaos board member flags will be flying high as we form a New Orleans style funeral procession (please wear black), remembering those lives already devastated by extreme changes in climate.
The march will end at the civic centre, where following a brief rally, buses will be waiting to take you on to E.ON’s headquarters – the company behind the plans for a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth. Join us to say ‘No to Coal’.
If you would like to book a seat for the service, or reserve a place on the bus to E.ON please call 0207 5232264 or email campaigns@christian-aid.org now. Christian Aid would like to thank Stop Climate Chaos for partnering with us for this event and looks forward to seeing you all at the ‘Climate Change Day of Action’.
