Stop Climate Chaos

E.ON have shelved Kingsnorth plans

Coalition members at Kingsnorth

E.ON has shelved its plans for a new dirty coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth! Marking a huge campaign victory for all of us in the coalition, and beyond, news came through last night that the energy company is delaying a decision on Kingsnorth for three years!

Your sustained campaigning has undoubtedly had a big impact on this decision. It just goes to show that campaigning works.

Hopefully this will give you a real boost and encourage you to redouble your efforts for The Wave so that we secure the best possible deal from Copenhagen. This success is just the beginning - we now need the Government to inspire a fair new international climate deal by ruling out all dirty coal-fired power stations!

Here's a quick reminder of what we've done together to secure this win:

  • 22.07.08 Saw SCC Board member organisations plant flags with their logos in the ground outside Kingsnorth
  • 27.10.08 Board members returned to Kingsnorth, this time aboard the Rainbow Warrior
  • 19.03.09 Christian Aid led hundreds of supporters to E.on's HQ in Coventry
  • 10.04.09 A whopping 85,480 messages saying no to coal and yes to renewables delivered to Ed Miliband
  • 04.07.09 The 'Mili-band' human chain around Kingsnorth brought some 1,000 supporters together
  • 14.09.09 An anti 'dirty coal' vigil outside the Department of Energy and Climate Change
