A Spring of Climate Reconnecting

After more than 5 months of reconnections including public meetings, MP lobbies, petitions, letters, a teach-in and even a bike ride, more than 100 MPs across the country were lobbied in spring 2011.

Lobbying groups ranged from 2 to more than 150 people and reached a plethora of key MPs, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, all 3 Ministers at the Department for Energy and Climate Change (on the same day!) members of the Energy Bill committee and other key ministers and shadow ministers.

This followed on from a great MP lobby in November 2010 and we’re continuing to remind MPs that climate change is a priority for communities up and down the UK.

And what did all this achieve?

The Reconnection contributed to the Government accepting the Committee on Climate Change's 4th carbon budget recommendations, albeit with some concessions.

Our lobbying for important amendments to the Energy Bill also led to the Government making key concessions in these areas.
