In the face of the government’s cuts and a global financial crisis, climate change can seem like a more distant problem. But the arctic is melting. Extreme weather events are becoming the norm across the world. In the UK, we had snow in spring and mass floods several years running.
Yet governments and energy companies continue to push for ever more dangerous forms of energy including more gas, fracking and tar sands – worsening climate change and pushing up energy bills. As the cuts bite, thousands died of cold in their homes this winter, unable to pay spiralling bills.
This year many climate groups in the UK have been trying to connect the dots between the economic policies that cause climate change, and the devastating impacts of austerity.
This meeting will discuss how we can make these connections successfully. It’ll also give you a whistle stop tour through what’s coming up in climate activism in the UK over the next six months.
