Lord Deben echoes hundreds of UK businesses and investors

Responding to Lord
Deben’s letter to Energy Secretary Ed Davey calling for 2030 decarbonisation target to be written in to the Energy Bill,
Greenpeace Energy Campaigner Leila Deen said:

“Lord
Deben echoes the concerns of hundreds of UK businesses and investors – without
a goal in the Energy Bill to remove carbon from our electricity sector by 2030,
green jobs and investment will be lost, the UK will become dangerously
dependent on gas and consumers will pay the price.

 “George
Osborne has done his best to block the 2030 goal. He thinks it’s sufficient
that the Government 'may’ introduce a goal in 2016. But his own colleague Tim
Yeo knows this won’t work and is standing up for jobs and businesses with an
amendment that’s gaining cross-party support from Labour, Tory modernisers and
the Lib Dems. Billions of pounds of investment and stable household bills rest
on Yeo’s amendment becoming law.”
