UNISON at the Burston school strike rally

The annual event celebrates the longest strike in history when schoolchildren ‘went on strike’ in 1914 to support their teachers who had been sacked by the rural squirarchy for organising agricultural workers.

Dave Prentis said: “It was great to spend the day with our activists in the eastern region.

“The history of the Burston strike should inspire us all and remind us what can be achieved when workers and communities work together and support each other.”

Also appearing at the rally were Christine Blower, general secretary of the NUT and Labour leadership contender Jeremy Corbyn.
