Over 350 people, most of them on their bikes, gathered outside the office of the Scottish Government on Wednesday 11th January to urge Scottish Ministers to increase funding for cycling and walking instead of funding expensive road-building programmes that will increase Scotland’s carbon footprint.

Wake Up: Walk Out will be on 26th April, a day when activists all over the country will be campaigning as part of the Ask the Climate Question’s Climate Change Day.

1. Wake Up: Send a wake up call to the UK Government by texting WAKEUP to 82222 followed by your name and postcode. Your message will be delivered, along with others, to Downing Street.

2. Walk Out: At 1pm on Monday 26th April stop what you are doing, wherever you are, and Walk Out. Go into the streets and send the message to the Government to cut carbon emissions by 42%.

The public consultation on Kingsnorth closes on Wednesday the 9th of September. Ed Miliband will be making a final decision on the future of coal power in the UK.

To remind Ed how we all feel about unabated coal power we are planning an evening vigil outside Ed's Department of Energy and Climate Change.

At 4.30pm on Monday 14th September, we'll be gathering outside the DECC building in London. The demonstration will feature supporters from across the coalition, representing the wide range of public opposition to climate-wrecking dirty coal power.

An Urgent Call for Support as Vestas Evict Workers

Since the 20th July workers have been occupying Vestas blades, which is the UK’s only wind blade factory, in protest at plans to close it down and axe 625 jobs.

A wide range of people have been down on the island in support of the occupation for the duration. Two days ago, a group of activists occupied the roof of a second Vestas facility in support of the workers at Vestas Blades.

Doncaster played host to a successful Climate Change Rally last Saturday (11th July), organised by members of the coalition including CAFOD, Tearfund, Christian Aid, Operation Noah and Doncaster Minster.

Over 400 people joined the climate change march. Donny the Dog, Doncaster Rover's lucky mascot, clowns, school children, factory workers and local groups of social justice organisations made a spectacle parading through the town centre on Saturday morning.

We've made some progress on the coal campaign lately, with Climate and Energy Minister Ed Miliband finally ruling out any new coal-fired power stations that don't capture a proportion of the carbon they emit. But that's not nearly enough to save the climate.

The next few months will be crucial in persuading Ed to go all the way before the government announces a decision on new coal fired power plants. We need your help to show Ed and the government that opposition to new dirty coal is growing across the country.

On Friday 3 April, at the culmination of the G20 protests, students from campaign group People & Planet are taking action in London and Edinburgh to expose RBS's investments in climate changing fossil fuels.

Converging on the EICC in Edinburgh and RBS offices on Bishopsgate in London on the day of the bank's AGM, armed with feather dusters, dressed as cleaners and dodgy bankers, protesters will demand the right to vote for a clean RBS.

CAFOD's climate change campaign launched on March 12th. The campaign focuses on climate justice, calling for a fair deal at the UN talks in Copenhagen this December, which puts poor people at its heart, tackling the causes of climate change, as well as supporting those already experiencing its effects.

The Age of Stupid

Climate change film The Age of Stupid was released at ‘People’s Premieres’ in 80 cinemas around the country with a gaggle of stars in Leicester Square.

Now it's the all important opening weekend (20th - 22nd) at a cinema near you.

The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as an archivist in 2055, living in a world ravaged by the effects of climate change. He watches footage from 2008 wondering, ‘Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?’

We organised the speakers for all the premiere screenings of the film around the country, and are working with the Age of Stupid team on their Not Stupid campaign.

'Climate Rush' hit Heathrow Airport on the 12th January. A lovely picnic was enjoyed by all with much singing and merriment. It all started at 7pm in terminal 1, and effectively highlighted the unsustainability of short-haul domestic flights and the devastating impact of the proposed Heathrow expansion.

National Climate March 2008

On Saturday 6th December the National Climate March went from Speaker's Corner (Hyde Park) to Parliament Square in London.

As part of the Global Day of Action there were National Climate Marches across over 70 countries this year. The date was chosen as it is the midway point of a fortnight of climate talks in Poznan.

The march in London had four major themes:

NO to a 3rd runway at Heathrow and further aviation expansion.
NO new coal - no new coal power stations like Kingsnorth.
NO to the expansion of agrofuels - with negative impacts on forests, the climate and world food supply.
YES to a renewable energy revolution and the creation of green jobs.

At precisely 2pm, around 50 students wearing evening suits and ball gowns rolled out a red carpet and set up a podium. The presenter bounded up onto the stage to begin the proceedings.

Rainbow Warrior delivers Coalition's Board and declaration to E.ON

Our coalition board met on the Rainbow Warrior to sign this declaration,

4 million strong, we say no to dirty coal power stations, and yes to a clean green renewable energy future.

The declaration was signed on board ship by representatives from Greenpeace, Oxfam, the Women's Institute, Tearfund, RSPB, Friends of the Earth, WWF and Christian Aid. It was then delivered to E.ON at the site of their new coal power station in Kingsnorth.

Our Bristol Question Time, in partnership with RSPB and Oxfam, unified local voices in a clear call for immediate Government action to cut the UK’s carbon emissions.

Around 200 people packed in to Bristol’s Council House to quiz local MPs: Steve Webb; Robert key and Paul Smith, along with the CEO of RSPB, Graham Wynne, and Tim Jones of the World Development Movement. Chief Executive of the South West Regional Secretariat, Bryony Houlden chaired the panel.

Stop Climate Chaos Leeds' global warming sculpture

To draw attention to the issue of climate change, more than 100 people took part in a simultaneous 5 minute freeze in Leeds city centre. Similar to an art installation by Improv Everywhere the Leeds freeze left bystanders initially confused, but was then greeted by rapturous applause, and climate change information leaflets were then distributed.

Edinburgh Question Time

The first in the series of Stop Climate Chaos ‘Question Time’ events took place in Edinburgh on the 6th October. Stop Climate Chaos Scotland organised it in partnership with People and Planet and Edinburgh University.

Around 200 students and members of the public packed in to quiz Members of the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments, along with NGO and Energy Industry representatives, about their views on Energy and Climate Change.
