We can and must tackle climate change and the economic downturn together.
On 2 April, 20 world leaders (the G20) meet in London to talk about the global financial crisis.
However even before the recent banking collapse, the world was already suffering poverty, inequality and the threat of climate chaos.
Our future depends on creating an economy based on the fair distribution of wealth, decent jobs for all and a low carbon world. Sign this petition to get your message to the G20, and add the petition to your Facebook page.
We are delighted to welcome the NUS and their members to the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition - the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to tackling climate change.
Susan Nash, Co-convenor of the Society and Citizenship zone at NUS said,
NUS is delighted to join Stop Climate Chaos, many of our members already play a crucial role in the fight against destructive climate change from a local level right up to campaigning on a international scale. From educating our seven million members to continuing to campaign and lobby nationally NUS is pleased to be standing alongside our partners in SCC.
We have fewer than 100 months to reverse the growth in global carbon emissions, otherwise global warming will almost certainly exceed the danger threshold of 2 degrees C. The most important international talks in the history of humankind will take place at the UN Climate Change negotiations in Copenhagen this December. They must deliver a fair global deal to keep us safe from dangerous and irreversible climate chaos.
Climate change film The Age of Stupid was released at ‘People’s Premieres’ in 80 cinemas around the country with a gaggle of stars in Leicester Square.
Now it's the all important opening weekend (20th - 22nd) at a cinema near you.
The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as an archivist in 2055, living in a world ravaged by the effects of climate change. He watches footage from 2008 wondering, ‘Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?’
We organised the speakers for all the premiere screenings of the film around the country, and are working with the Age of Stupid team on their Not Stupid campaign.
Our friends at Flipside Vision have produced a new Calendar of Climate Change for 2009. This calendar provides two poignant images underlining the impact of climate change every month.
It also contextualises the issues around climate change and includes tips and advice on how to reduce your own emissions. The calendar is produced to be carbon neutral. Flipside Vision have kindly offered 50% of their profits to help Stop Climate Chaos to fund its ongoing work.
For us to get 50% of the profits, the purchase has to have been made via this link:
