Great news - Britain's wind farms generated record levels of power on Monday, providing 5 per cent of all power supplied to the National Grid over course of the day.

The Grid confirmed that 40.5GWh out of a total 809.5GWh was provided by wind farms over the 24-hour period, with wind output peaking at 1,860 megawatts at 8.30pm.

Cairn energy set to claim Arctic oil find - Greenpeace response

Reports in the Guardian newspaper tonight suggest that Edinburgh based Cairn Energy is on the verge of announcing the first discovery of oil in Arctic waters off the coast of Greenland. The Greenpeace protest ship Esperanza this morning arrived at the scene of the alleged find to the west of Disko Island in Baffin Bay.

Speaking from the Esperanza, which is currently positioned within sight of the two rigs Cairn is operating in the area where the find was apparently made, Greenpeace campaigner Leila Deen said:

Early on Sunday a fire destroyed part of the Climate Defenders Camp in Indonesia on Riau’s Kampar Peninsula. The flames were spotted by villagers across the Kampar river in Teluk Meranti in the early hours of the morning. Luckily the camp's caretaker was not there at the time and no one was injured.

Pretty amazing stuff going on in Indonesia over the weekend.

It started when the police issued an eviction order for the camp, after last week's action which closed down an APRIL logging concession. The action was strongly
supported by local communities - the eviction notice was only secured after pressure from the logging
companies.

But then, in a surprising move, the chief of police of Pelalawan district revoked the eviction order, after 300 locals from nearby Teluk
Meranti village turned up at the camp the next morning to show their
support.

"Miliband can name as many sites as he likes for new nuclear power stations, but the fact remains that the figures simply don't add up.

Using different strains of rice, a vast image of farmers wearing straw hats and using sickles to harvest rice was created - celebrating South East Asia's rich heritage of rice cultivation, and to reminding governments to protect our most important food crop from the twin threats of genetic engineering and climate change.

ED Miliband today announced the details of his new coal consultation. While recognising the need to reduce emissions from coal-fired power stations, as promised, it places equal emphasis on maintaining a "diverse, secure energy mix".

In April the Energy and Climate Change Secretary initiated a significant U-turn in government policy when he told Parliament that "the era of new unabated coal is over." Compared with the "business as usual" approach of predecessors like John Hutton, this is a big step forward.

For starters, E.ON isn’t to get their way over Kingsnorth, at least not with their current plan.

Over fifty thousand British jobs could be created if the government invested in an energy efficiency programme that would also help tackle climate change, according to a report released today.

The report coincides with research from New Economics Foundation (Nef) showing that new funding for greening the economy amounts to just 0.6 per cent of the UK's total stimulus package. Gordon Brown recently claimed to the House of Commons liaison committee that around 10 per cent of the UK package was directed towards "environmentally important technologies".

Lord Turner's Committee on Climate Change today recommended that new coal plants are not built in the UK unless they can capture all of their emissions by the early 2020s. If accepted by the Government, the proposal would kill controversial plans by German energy giant Eon to build a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent.

Development and faith groups board Rainbow Warrior to say no to dirty coal and yes to clean green renewable energy

The leader's of the UK's largest development, faith and environment groups will be boarding the Rainbow Warrior this morning (Monday 27 October) and sailing towards Kingsnorth power station in Kent, where the first coal plant for a generation is being planned.

Directors from a diverse range of organisations including Oxfam, the Women's Institute, Tearfund and the RSPB, along with other members of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition: Friends of the Earth; WWF and Christian Aid will join the Greenpeace ship at Chatham.

Reacting to the news that Ed Miliband has been appointed Secretary of State at a new Department for Energy and Climate, Greenpeace Executive Director John Sauven said:
