1. What's The Wave?

On Saturday 5 December 2009, ahead of the crucial UN climate summit in Copenhagen, tens of thousands of people from all walks of life will march through the streets of London to demonstrate their support for a safe climate future for all.

Thank you to the 8,000 people who took to the streets of Glasgow on Saturday 5th December to demand urgent action on climate change.

Ahead of the UN climate change negotiations in Copenhagen, the march was organised by Stop Climate Chaos Scotland to call on our political leaders to secure an international deal that prevents runaway climate change.

Mike Robinson, Chair of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland said:

I am delighted so many people braved the December weather to take a stand against climate change. Scotland has the strongest climate legislation in the world and the turn out today shows why – people care. Leaders meeting in Copenhagen over the next two weeks should be in no doubt, the eyes of the world are on them and we must see the western world in particular, setting the scale and immediacy of targets we know we need to prevent runaway climate change.

More than 50,000 people came together to demand action on climate change on Saturday 5th Dec at The Wave, the biggest climate change march in the world ever! We called for the Government to take much more urgent and effective action on climate change.

The Wave fun looks set to start way before 12 noon on 5th December, with bike rides setting off a week before and feeder events happening right up to the big day.

As editor of an online magazine that regularly features stories on international development, I’ve learnt a lot about the interdependence of people and planet. But it was while writing a feature on African environmentalists that I had a light bulb moment and suddenly realised that the link between climate change and poverty is undeniable. That’s why I’m supporting The Wave. People in poor countries are suffering the most for something that they’ve contributed to the least. There’s never been a better time to demand action on climate change. The time is now!

Stars go blue in the face for climate change

Oxfam have produced a new Stop Climate Chaos video for Glastonbury as part of their Here and Now climate change campaign.

The video features Fatboy Slim, Jarvis Cocker, VV Brown, Little Boots and more, and they want you to join them 'demanding action until you're blue in the face'. They've also got photographer Rankin to take some great shots of everyone involved. Have a sneak preview below!
